Dermaplaning

Reveal a healthier complexion
Dermaplaning facial resurfacing improves wrinkles, skin texture and color by removing the top, outermost layer of skin. This leaves skin more supple and vibrant while stimulating elastin renewal, resulting in healthier, firmer skin. Dermaplaning is one of the most effective facial exfoliation treatments available to clients. It is a process that has been used in conjunction with medical skin care for the past two decades because it is proven to be very effective at stimulating radiant, healthier skin.

Dermaplaning is a quick, noninvasive, painless procedure in which surface dead skin cells are manually scraped away. There is no recovery time involved with this procedure. The skin starts to heal itself, immediately producing newer, healthier skin.

Dermaplaning increases cellular turnover while smoothing and softening the surface of the skin. As an added bonus, it removes the fine vellus hair on the face, which can trap oil and dirt, leading to other skin problems. Once the fine hair, dirt, oil and dead skins cells are scraped away, skin products and treatments are more effective because they penetrate more deeply.

Dermaplaning can be done every four weeks, thereby allowing the skin to complete its normal skin rejuvenation cycle in between sessions. Dermaplaning is performed on the face, under the chin and sides of the neck.

FAQ

What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning, also known as Epidermal leveling is a gentle, non-invasive form of manual exfoliation of the skin that resurfaces sun-damaged, dull, dehydrated skin. Using a surgical blade, a medical esthetician gently exfoliates the outermost layers of the epidermis to remove dead skin cells, impurities and debris. This encourages the skin to regenerate new skin cells, leaving the complexion smooth, soft and vibrant.

Regular treatments of Dermaplaning have been known to:
  • Diminish fine lines
  • Smooth acne scarring
  • Improve skin texture and tone
  • Help to unblock blackheads
  • Temporarily remove facial hair (hair does not grow back thicker)
  • Generate new healthy cell growth
  • Enhance penetration of skin care products
Will Dermaplaning hurt?
There is no pain associated with dermaplaning, most people find it relaxing. It is a non-invasive treatment and only the dead skin cells on the surface will be removed. Since products will penetrate more easily, we recommend using caution when applying aggressive skin care serums at home for a few days to avoid any irritation.
Will I have to take time off work for healing?
Here is no downtime after dermplaning, and you can return to work the same day. We highly recommend a dermaplaning facial before a big event such as a wedding or a reunion due to the smoothing and rejuvenating appearance it produces.
Can I have a Chemical Peel at the same time?
The combination of dermaplaning with a chemical peel is an excellent skincare treatment and one that we recommend to many of our clients. Since dermaplaning removes the dead skin cells that act as a strong barrier against products, the alpha and beta hydroxyl acids in the peel are able to better penetrate into the skin to encourage new cell growth, reduce discoloration, soften fine lines, and minimize the appearance of pores. Since this is a more intensive treatment than the dermaplaning facial there can be 1-2 days of slight skin flaking around the nose and mouth after the treatment.
Won’t the hairs on the face grow back thicker?
No. The hair on the face is called Vellus hairs and it is physiologically impossible to grow back thicker. There are two types of hair that grow on our bodies, Vellus and Terminal hair. Vellus hair is the fine, translucent hair that you can find on your cheeks, jaw and neck – often referred to as “peach fuzz”. Terminal hair is thicker, colored hair that grows under the arms, pubic area, legs, eye brows, and mustache and beard for men. Terminal hair we remove with laser hair removal. When Vellus hair is cut the structure of the hair does not become damaged, therefore it is impossible to alter.
